A decision phrase bank is a shared set of phrases a team agrees to use in meetings so that hesitation, risk, and real alignment get spoken out loud. Teams adopt the phrases together, which turns an awkward interruption into standard process.
We built this bank for multicultural leadership teams after watching the same failure repeat. Three regions leave a meeting saying 'proceeding as planned', and each region proceeds toward a different destination. Everyone shared the words and nobody shared the meaning.
The phrases below work as shared team agreements rather than scripts. Finding the right words was never the hard part, and saying them while the room is already moving is, which is why adopting them together matters more than the wording.

How to adopt this with your team

Pick 4 to 6 phrases together in a team meeting. Choosing them as a group is the point, because shared adoption is what makes using them safe.

Agree that anyone can use any phrase at any time, including the most junior person in the room. Post the chosen phrases where the team meets.

Close important decisions with a readback: who does what, by when, in what format. 'Are we aligned?' just invites a nod, while a readback shows you what people actually heard.
Using these phrases isn't an interruption so much as a pause that makes room for whatever the moment needs said.

Do these phrases work in hierarchical cultures?
Yes, and that's exactly where they earn their keep. When the phrases are adopted as team agreements, a junior member using one is following the process, not challenging a senior. The agreement carries the risk so the person doesn't have to.
Which category should we start with?
Teams find clarifying understanding the easiest entry point and surfacing hesitation the hardest. Start with two clarifying phrases and one decision clarity phrase, then add a hesitation phrase once the first three feel normal.
